I’m currently in high school and thinking of going into biology when I start attending university next year (woo-hoo!). Do you guys have any recommendations for books? Especially anything in ornithology or genetics would be superb.
Advice on a career in biology would also be appreciated. I plan on getting at least a Master’s degree before exiting school. Will I need to get a PhD? Also, would it be possible for me to get a Bachelor’s in math with a minor in biology and then apply for a Master’s in biology? If not, how hard is it to get a dual degree? Is that a good idea? How much math will I be learning and using with a biology degree? What things should I be considering as I decide what field of study to enter (both in biology and careers in general)?
If you chart a course to the dual degree carefully, you can apply many electives to both degrees. I graduated with BS Bio and BA Chem using that strategy. Having the broad background was very useful in grad school and since.
I like the book "Coming to Life" by Nusslein-Volhard (molecular developmental biology). Good luck!
