im answering questions for my IB Biology class and i need some help…
After a cookie has been digested, glucose molecules enter the bloodstream by the process of
A) phagocytosis
B) diffusion
C) ingestion
D) pinocytosis - January 19, 2006 at 6:12 am #37644Dr.SteinParticipant
I DO know the answer, before I tell you, could you please tell me the definition of those four options? 😉

I guess it’s because the question looks more like a home work question 😉

actually it’s neither 😆 😆 😆
A glucose molecule is taken in by an enterocyte(a cell of the small intestine) by a Na-assisted secondary active transport mechanism. two Na molecules(rarely, only one) and one glucose molecule attach to the protein and enter the cell. They travel down the concentration gradient of NA, but glucose also enters the cell, by this mechanism called a symport.
From the enterocyte the glucose molecule enters the bloodstream by facilitated diffusion, according to it’s own concentration gradient. It travels through a permease of the GLUT family.Not a good question for someone who hasn’t learned the functioning of membrane transport. But you can go to your teacher with my explanation and probably get an A 😆

I didn’t act like a teacher because I am a real teacher, both online and offline. This "teacher attitude" becomes my nature 8) And my motto is "Dr.Stein will answer your question with question" be careful mwahaha 😈 😀
Andrew: Enterocyte? 😕 I know it is "gut cell" but just sound ‘strange’ to me, I never use that term because it is totum pro parte 😆

@Dr.Stein
I like the term, the romanian term is much longer, so it has become a habbit. I use it in english too, even if the english "gut cell" is shorter out of habbit 😆 - January 22, 2006 at 7:50 am #38045mikeguguguParticipant
C I guess
