cellular preservation: protein vs. dna

      I am in a biology lab that has required testing of samples that need determination of whether or not the sample is alive, once alive, or never alive. A biuret, Feulgen, and TZ test were run on the samples, and one result begged this question in order to determine how much confidence can be placed in certain results that were obtained.

      so.. the question that needed answering is..

      in a dead organism, which is preserved longer: DNA or proteins?
      considering.. if tests were run on a sample for both.. which would test positive when the other would no longer be evident in the sample

      Any help would be greatly appreciated!
