Hi, I was just doing some reading on cell structure and organelles and a question came through in my mind about centrioles. I understand that most of the mitochondria in cells come from the mother’s egg. However, are the centrioles provided by the father’s sperm? I read somewhere that the microtuble assembly of flagellum is anchored in the cell by a basal body. Hence when the basal body of the fertilizing sperm’s flagellum enters the egg, does that eventually become the centriole?
