I heard about an article detailing where life is headed in the next thousand years and it isnt pretty. Apparently (and the writes could have been exaggerating) if we continue making the same amount of scientific and technological advancements as we are now for the next thousand years, by then we’ll only need our head…not the rest of our bodies. And we already have things like houses that cook and clean for you, and replacement limbs that are so realistic you can think them to move – just using your mind – so i guess anytings possible. What do you think?

hahahahah i find that a little silly… and farfetched …. our limbs are required for more than chores!!! what about human interaction??? we cant live without touching each other? how will we reproduce?? BAH no one is going to prefer artificially reproducing to sex!
If we were just a head how would our brain function?? live on chemical substititutes instead of eating?? injections of drugs instead of producing hormones like endorphins?we need a body to make our brain happy too, no one will want that way of life. thought of it makes me shudder

I hope they quit while they’re ahead.

I have also heard about this. they say that in a thousant years human will turn to a homunculus- a big head, and everything else athrophied.
Wether this is true or not, i don’t know, but knowing that chips have been instaled in the human brain to help us control computers only with our brain, i can’t help thinking that this may be real. - June 3, 2006 at 10:50 am #49409nuggetParticipant
but like come on, there are sooo many diffrent opinions, one thing can never overrule another. there will always be people to appreciate the real things in life and not be technologically intune or even give a crap about such technologies. we have to believe in being HUMAN and that is not being human. how many people would be willing to put a chip in their brain??? would you??
i can see it now ….. lool i for one would be more than happy to stand at a picket line, as a student activist, against such a movement
sure there are articles and studies and theories… but seriously what a waste of time. lets first deal with important issues….. spend money on research… cancer, aids, even the more vain things like age defying creams seem more important than controlling a computer with your brain… like going into space, fix our own world before ruining the rest of the universe waste of time and money if u ask me.
or maybe im just scared that it may become areality. but if it does i would think it to be a very long time away

Big heads, insignificant mouths (because they use tellaepathic communication) Shrinking bodys because thay are hardly used, and space travel has affected.
baby’s are produced via test tubes.
The head has enlarged due to the increase of brain use. )we only use about 10% in general) they use al ot more of their brain.

That is why aliens would also have this, because they are millions of years more advanced that us.
I think that hopefully since we use our technology etc… to offset the evolution of our species this will not happen. I think that our arms and legs would go away if it were better not to have any arms or legs. I think that just because arms and legs won’t be needed doesn’t mean it would be better if we didn’t have them. That is like if a child is born with no limbs they are better suited to live in our society? I don’t understand how this evolution would happen.
Maybe gradual like people will smaller and smaller limbs are favored? - June 4, 2006 at 12:35 pm #49464mithParticipant
A little gray guy 🙂 or little green men.

It does sound far-fetched, doesn’t it? But I guess anythings possible……I sincerely hope it doesn’t become a reality though. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about it because if it does happen, it won’t happen for a long time.

I’m sorry Linn, I didn’t read your fist sentence and I thought you were talking about humans not aliens, ha! no wonder I thought it sounded a lot like aliens 😯 whoops.

well I was talking about what the aliens are "said to look like"
And how humans could develop big heads and teeny mouths and
skinny weak bodies.Just kidding though.
I like my legs 😆 😆 😆
On a serious note
NASA is working on ways to prevent damage to the body during long space missions (a goal for the future) exciting I think. 🙂 - June 5, 2006 at 11:12 pm #49581AstusAleatorParticipant
As long as we continue to be as obsessed with sports as we are, I don’t foresee our bodies becoming diminished in the future. Perhaps we could see a seperation of "castes" or a type of speciation in which a group of humans is selected for their brain power while another is selected for their physical strength, kind of like the Time Machine scenario. who knows.
