      Do the two strands of DNA helix carry the same genetic information?

      Yes and no, they do not. They are complementary to each other, so one gene sequence can be found on one strand and the second gene sequence on another (read in the opposite direction). However, both strands are required for transcription to mRNA since it’s the complement strand that is used as template for it…
