But if you want an answer off the top of my head.

1.) Earthworms enrich and aerate the soil as they dig through it. When digging, the earth is seperated, thus creating spaces between the particles and such. This new addition of space provides areas where air can come into, thus aeration. As for enrichment, well I’m not sure I think its partly because whilst digging, it’d take into its body many biotic things, which would have taken longer to decay but with the help of the worm, it is digested and then re-released into the earth as various stuff.

2.) There are a few things. The two most common things is that it doesn’t have eyes, which prohibit it from being able to visualize things clearly above land, thus it cannot hide from predators.

Also, they are both slow and have no methods of protecting themselves, like shells or something.

Thus, predators can easily pick them off and eat them without any problems.

3.) One is that it is streamlined. No extra limbs sticking out here and there that could get stuck in the earth around and get it stuck.

Two is that there skin is expansive, thus they can take in the earth and then send it along its body without it being damaged. This is important due to the fact that they live directly in the ground and a lot of times there is no other choice but to swallow chunks of earth.

1. Worms tunnel and eat the soil. The tunneling not only loosens the soil but mixes it as well. And yes, they enrich the soil with their wastes; this is the basis of using earthworm castings as fertilizer. They also pull vegetation suchs as dead leaves into the soil from the surface.

2. Antoher would be that they don’t have lungs, and would find it difficult to live in the open exposed to the sun.

3. Another adaptation to soil life are their rectractable setae, stiff hairs that are paired in each segment. Extended or pulled in at will to aid its movment through the soil.
