What is the origin of HCO3- where it enters at the first step of gluconeogenesis? Is it from carbonic anhydrase?
There is equilibrium between CO2 and (HCO3)-
And yes, the equilibrium is maintained by carbonic anhydrase, but even without it there would be some (HCO3)-, but it could be replenished quickly.
Thanks very much! Is there any compartmentalisation of carbonic anhydrase, or can it be present anywhere?

look for localization (seems to be present basically everywhere)
