How many human genes have the scientists mapped? And there are a total of how many genes in a somatic cell? Are the information on the mapped genes all saved in computer databases? Is this what I hear as career in bioinformatics? Thanks for your answers to my questions.

      at the moment 22 740
u can view them all at ensembl
however this figure can change on monthly basis as new gene are identified and wrongly predicted genes are removed

EMBL and NCBI are two main sources…You can do a search and read the genbank file for more info.
