How many human genes have the scientists mapped? And there are a total of how many genes in a somatic cell? Are the information on the mapped genes all saved in computer databases? Is this what I hear as career in bioinformatics? Thanks for your answers to my questions.

at the moment 22 740
u can view them all at ensembl
however this figure can change on monthly basis as new gene are identified and wrongly predicted genes are removed - February 13, 2008 at 6:53 am #81799mithParticipant
EMBL and NCBI are two main sources…You can do a search and read the genbank file for more info.
