      Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed, I haven’t been around visibly lately, and we can thank my pompous ass college for that. When I came by, I didn’t have a lot of time, so I just answered a few questions and did mod work and then was gone. So i wanna ask, what has everyone been up to? Any recent important events? Share anything you want, no matter how random.

I went on a field trip with my biology class this weekend. It was beyond a doubt the most fun I’ve ever had on any school-related event. We waded and swam through creeks and rivers collecting fish. In one river, we collected fifteen different species in only half an hour! Definitely got to love hands-on scientific research. I’m currently red as a tomato from sunburn, but it was worth it. The trip confirmed to me that I’ve chosen the right career path.

We’ve been in a field trip too last week. What fishes did you catch by the way? hope they were not arapaimas! πŸ™‚ I have seen some of them during our visit in a zoological park. Nice that you already confirmed your prospect. Good luck to that one.

Well, I am completing and updating some of my requirements that I have to submit for employment purposes lately. Quite exhausting specially that I am also part of the working committees for our incoming national biology convention on April; our university will host the said event.

I’ve been working. Not that anyone would be interested but I test immunoassays, at the moment I have an Chlamydia ELISA incubating. It’s very exicting…

      @alex
I’m jealous a little. My research involves growing yeast and running gels. Still awesome though, and I don’t get sunburns.

      @sepals

That does sound exciting, but only to fellow nerds like me πŸ˜†

      quote mcar:

What fishes did you catch by the way?

Mostly small fish, topminnows, chubs, and shiners, along with a few sunfish and bass. Here’s a species list:

      Family Cyprinidae:
      Macrhybopsis aestivalis
      Notropis longirostris
      Notropis texanus

      Family Catostomidae:
      Hypentelium nigricans

      Family Ictaluridae:
      Noturus miurus

      Family Fundulidae:
      Fundulus olivaceous
      Fundulus notti

      Family Poeciliidae:
      Poecilia latipinna

      Family Atherinidae:
      Labidesthes sicculus

      Family Centrachidae:
      Ambloplites ariommus
      Lepomis macrochirus
      Lepomis megalotis
      Micropterus punctulatus

      Family Percidae:
      Ammocrypta beani
      Percina nigrofasciata
      Percina sciera
      Etheostoma chlorosomum
      Etheostoma swaini
      Ehteostoma lynceum
      Etheostoma stigmaeum

The two most common species were Fundulus olivaceous (blackspotted topminnow) and Notropis longirostrus (longnose shiner). We must’ve caught hundreds of those two!

I thought Micropterus was in (*edit*)Percidae(*edit*)… (I originally said Cyprinidae… see that’s how rusty I am)

but then again it’s been a few years since I took Ichthyology. I LOVED that class, by the way. Yes, wading around in creeks and rivers collecting fish is badass. It must be especially cool in the Mississippi River delta area cuz of the amazing fishy biodiversity.

The great thing is – you’ll totally get to do that for a job too: at least for the first few years out of college :).

Aside from my usually botany surveys, I also got to do some salmon spawning surveys back in December. Was puurrty fun.

The classification may have changed, since taxonomists tend to do that from time to time, but we were taught that Micropterus is in Centrarchidae.

I’m crappy. A conjugate for a flu immunofluorescence kit I’m validating disappeared after 6 weeks of incubation! As in out of the bottle. Only explanations are evaporation or leakage, but I can’t see how either would have happened. :/ It was only kept at 25Β°C and as far as my line manager know this hasn’t happened before. Now I have to start again and wait until another 6 weeks and it’s needed urgently! πŸ™

All I need a job offer so I can gladly had in my notice!

As of now, I’m currently waiting for a message or a call from a hospital. I have to look after my mother. Still managing to finish all my tasks before Tuesday. This month of March really keeps me marching to work 😐

I do believe I shall take this time to vent and express myself(aka complain…. rofl I can make anything sound so nice)

Im very busy, filling out college stuff, taking care of my mom half the time, dealing with all my friends drama and being the peacemaker/pacifist in the group*, I just got done with a 126 Question test, and a lot of other stuff… I feel like a decapitated chicken. maybe I should just tell people to leave me alone and let me get my stuff done first-no wait. then there would be fights and someone else could get suspended/expelled. you dont want to know how many times Ive put myself between alex from my school and a rumor queen to stop a fight…

*(its so strange I hang with 95% guys and still see so much drama it makes my head spin! who ever said guys dont hold grudges, are calmer, or anything is dead wrong! but girls can get a lot worse I suppose…)

GRRRRRRRRRRR πŸ‘Ώ …. actually that felt nice. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm……

Contrary to popular belief, boys can be bitchy and moody. I have to put up with one such boy 5 days a week at work. :S

My advice is to try not to exert so much energy into preventing arguments between other people for two reasons:

In the end of the day, people need to learn from their own mistakes and constantly holding them back could prolong the situation, rather than letting them get it out of their system and deal with the consequences.

Also this could backlash onto you, as people might use you as a scapegoat for interfering.

thats so true… I am looking at Thecker across from me and giving him the evil eye….. he hasnt noticed yet.. yes he has. he’s imitating a dead person now since he has this idea that I actually possess the ability to kill people with a look. if only it was that easy. but I wouldnt even then. I love these guys too much as much as it pains me. *sigh* ok but I think I will lay off of them today. if a fight breaks out Ill sit back and pop some popcorn.. jk but really its going to take a lot of self control to let such a thing happen. wow I am so tired today. I think its showing even here. I need a monster. lol
