      Does anyone know what the terms "hydrophilic" and "hydrophobic" mean? Please don’t give me the definitions as exactly quoted from the textbook, but in a simple way that a biology layman can understand quite easily without much trouble.

      "hydrophilic" = water soluble
      "hydrophobic" = oil soluble

      hydrophilic – with ionic groups or polar bonds (those with unbalanced electrons)
      hydrophobic – those with nonpolar groups (or symmetric polar bonds as in CO2)
