Hi,
This is not my area so I thought I’d ask.
Let’s say I take the genome of a plant, say rice, and modify it. Now, I have a new genetic sequence on my computer. Or say I design an entirely new ‘rice’ genome. How can I go from the sequence to an actual plant? Of course, for the latter, I am assuming that we can synthesize large genomes from scratch which may not be possible, but for the sake of argument, assume that we can obtain the DNA. I was thinking a gene gun or something like that, however, at least the gene gun inserts DNA into an existing cell which may have its DNA, so I am not sure how this works. I will appreciate any insights.
Thanks,
John.
