can anyone tell me what the difference between rna and dna:?:

Yes, our tutorial on genetics. And you will learn plenty of other things too.
Enjoy 😀 - January 22, 2006 at 2:08 pm #38125pankaajParticipant
Hey, u will get more information from-
1) BIOLOGY by Campbell
2) cellsalive.com
& many more books. Its trivial yaar! Just find out.
IT can be in ur BIO Textbooks 🙄 - January 22, 2006 at 3:32 pm #38136EnzymeParticipantquote zmunshi_90:can anyone tell me what the difference between rna and dna:?:
– DNA has deoxyribose as glycide (sugar). RNA has ribose as glycide, which seems to deoxyribose but it has one hydroxyl group (-OH) in the two prime position.
– DNA has thymine as the complementary base of adenine. RNA has uracile as the complementary base of adenine.
There are more chemical differences as DNA is more stable than RNA (specially in alkaline conditions), etc. But the important differences are the first two points.
You can find the differences and similarities in books, on Internet and also in your notes. Try to find! ;).

Questions like this are annoying! Look at the tutorials!!

well see RNA is just a half copy of DNA, it doesn’t contain all the information like DNA does that is the only difference i know at the top of my head. 😉 8)

What you are reffering to is mRNA. There are other kinds of RNA. And take note, that mRNA contains the same coding codons as DNA. The fact that it is double stranded doesn’t mean it has twice the information. Also introns can be discussed here

Of course because you already know the answer and this is too easy or too basic for you, but not for her/him. Calm down… 8)

there are 4 main differences between RNA and DNA
1. RNA is single stranded while DNA is double stranded
2. RNA has the base Uracil instead of Thymine (which is what DNA has)
3. RNA has a different sugar for its backbone that DNA…i believe that DNA has a 5-carbon sugar called deoxyribose while RNA has ribose sugar
4. DNA is only found in the nucleus because DNA holds all of your genetic information which is very important for you body. RNA is pretty found anywhere in the cytoplasm (the jel-like substance in the cell) normanlly on the golgi apparatus. - January 28, 2006 at 3:37 pm #38741MrMisteryParticipant
A little correction: DNA can also be found in mithocondria, plastids and plasmids
