Hi all,
Lately I came across a disease: Kawasaki disease, I first read about it on the newspaper.
It is said that the (one and only) treatment is using IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin).
It is said that IVIG is very expensive, a treatment can cost hundreds of million rupiah (about thousands USD). Well its depend on the weight of the pastient, because the dose is in mg/kg body weight. What I want to know is: do the IVIG treatment cost the same in your country? (better if various country can reply to this)
If it is expensive, do you have any idea why it is expensive? Ive searched and it is said to be expensive because they have to pool human blood, and pay for the donor.
Well cant we just make the recombinant of IgG (the immunoglobulin mostly found in IVIG)? Or is there some other component in IVIG that play critical role on the cure? Thanks for your kind attention and answer
Regards,
