But it is your choise to study for it or not

Hmm…lets see. For one thing they are easy to photograph because they move so slow. 😆 Amoebas can move, capture, digest, and assimilate complex foods, egest indigestable residues, respire, produce excretions and secretions, respond to stimuli of diverse kinds either in their internal or external evironment. They can grow and reproduce themselves in kind and they can perform all the essential animal activities showing physiological specialization in different processes without having many structurally different parts to perform those processes. The list can go on about all the things that ameba are capable of doing.
Besides, they make wonderful pets. They are easy to take care of, eat very little, well sort of, they are good with children and they don’t bark at night. Now aren’t they wonderful! 😀

I think I understood it; the best way to improve yourself is to constantly challenge yourself, right? That’s a pretty cool philosophy. I find life gets boring without any challenges. Just don’t take it to the extreme, like jumping off a twenty-story building to challenge yourself to fly . . . 😆
I used to be Wiccan. I’m Catholic now, but I never lost the fascination I had for Wicca. Mainly it amazes me how a belief system could stand the test of time for so long. January 14, 2006 at 4:03 pm #37177
Not what you would call magic. I personally consider Wiccan magic to be more or less the same thing as Christian sacraments. In both, the supernatural/divine is called upon to do something for humans that we lowly mortals would be unable to do ourselves. For example, if we’re ill, you might do a healing spell, whereas I might rely on the sacrament of Annointing of the Sick. You call what you do magic, and I call what I do prayer, but they’re both more or less the same thing.

I hate politics as well. In fact I think one of the biggest problems with the U.S. and our politics is that we don’t try very hard to improve the environment. Global Warming is everywhere and we don’t seem to care. I went to Mexico (Cancun) and Italy and both are very focused on Conservation. Especially in Cancun. It was such a nice environment. I’m sure alot of other countries are the same way.

January 29, 2006 at 3:05 am #38790
I highly agree, bearhug. The trouble is that most US politicians are only concerned with getting themselves re-elected. The only way to get into office in the first place is to be part of a political party, and then to get re-elected you have to do what your party wants to do, and that usually involves helping the party more than the country or the environment. This country would be so much better if we didn’t have political parties. I hate our government.

Well Im currently concentrating on my undergraduate studies to acquire a B.S. in Biology. I chose developmental as it pertains directly to my concentration of study. I’m currently enrolled at CSUSB–California State University San Bernardino Mainly due to the fact that their Biology department is getting a complete renovation, and is placing major funding in their science departments, but was enrolled in CSUF, California State University Fullerton last term; we are allowed to freely exchange universities within our system.
My Concentration is cytometry and am currently in my 2nd year. I aspire to become a research scientist or should the opportunity lend itself I’ll further my education to acquire a M.S. in developmental Biology.
I have only been to Spain as a child to visit relatives and would love to go back; the woman are insanely hot, French/Portagese/Spanish mixes! My family was located in Costa Blanca. I was thinking of taking the whole student abroad thing, but I would just rather visit their and live their when I retire. Let me crash at your place! Ha. I have yet to meet anyone who is of actual Spanish decent (directly, not indirectly) everyone here in California is Mexican, or Porto Rican, South American etc… I really want to go back.

Yeah, that’s true. We can all express ourselves very well,I think. I dunno I want to study in England……I think i’d manage it.

I am sure other students will help you. when I was in school I helped a girl from Thailand understand the lectures and she would make copys of my notes. She just had some problems when the teacher talked too fast.

Well, I think after spending half a year in England before starting to study, I’ll be all right and understand most things.
And anyway, I’ll alredy need good English knowledge for the interview they do before they consider accepting you.

I just stumbled upon this forum and it is something that I was looking for. I was surprised the lack of similar forums in the net, especially one’s from my own country…well kind of.
I’m a first year student of biology, and I’ve been looking for a community of people interested in biology I could relate to and with whom I could exchange ideas and to have, or at least follow discussions about biology.
I’ve been a little frustrated about the lack of discourse with other biology students on the most interesting field of science, and I’ve wondered why there doesn’t seem to be this environment of open exchange of thoughts. Luckily I’ve found this place.
I’m a male.
I’ve done a major U-turn in starting to study biology. Reading a little Dawkins helped a lot…

A pair of parotoid gland, which locates near the tymphanic membrane is definetely a poison gland, but it is not on frog but toad 😉
See the two big ovoid "bumps" at the caudal part of eyes

What a sweet toad ! But i can’t distinguish frogs and toads properly. What are the main differences ?
March 18, 2007 at 1:37 am #70142
Ha! Actually there are some differences between them, some of them are:
– Skin surface, frog’s is smoother and moist while toad’s is rough (since the presence of tubercles) and dry.
– Body shape, frog’s is slimmer than chubby toad.
– Teeth, frog doesn’t have teeth in "V" bone while toad doesn’t
– Bone shape, frog’s is slender than toad’s
– The presence of parotoid glands on toad
– Habitat, frog prefers watery place like ponds, rivers, etc. while toad is somewhere drier.
– Frog can swim well, toad cannot.
– Eggs, frog’s are scattered, toad’s are arranged in string.
– Food preference.

Violence should only be a last resort but there are times when it is the only answer. If it wasn’t for violence, Hitler would’ve taken over the world.
October 3, 2007 at 3:43 pm #76590
No, without violence Hitler wouldn’t taken over the world because how he would have taken over the world was with force and VIOLENCE.
October 3, 2007 at 4:10 pm #76594
Non-violence is only effective if everyone is non-violent. Same can be said for kantian ethics.
October 3, 2007 at 4:13 pm #76595
I was just saying I don’t like violence and you make a big deal about it. Why?
October 3, 2007 at 4:19 pm #76596
I believe that violence should only be a last resort like you and in protecting my country. My dad is ex-military. But the world would be a better place without it. Hey, without violence we might still be controlled by England.
October 3, 2007 at 4:27 pm #76600
You’re right; the world would be a better place without it. But the sad fact is that some people are violent, and sometimes the only way to counter that is to fight fire with fire.
I am an ex-Marine, for example, and I saw combat in Afghanistan. My fellow Marines and I fought and killed terrorists that were not above killing innocent children simply because they thought it would get them into heaven. You can’t reason with people like that.
October 3, 2007 at 4:30 pm #76602
That’s cool. I don’t think I really want to be part of the military when I get older. I used to when I was about 7 but now that I’m 13 I don’t really want to. I am more geared toward writing and animals.
October 3, 2007 at 4:32 pm #76604
I wasn’t planning on entering the military either, but the attack on the World Trade Center changed my mind. I figured if there’s people out there who want to kill me just because of my religion or my nationality, then I’m at least going to get a good shot at them first, and I thought that maybe in the process I could keep my loved ones safe.
October 3, 2007 at 4:35 pm #76606
That makes a lot of sense. That would’ve made me want to go in the military after I go to college.

This is going to be an interesting addition.
And who despises the snake for having no horns?
Who got all mad at the snake for being hornless, "Jeeze man, I’m sorry snakey, but you haven’t got horns."
How does that even make sense?

Each person can interpret it differently..
My interpretation is that we should never discriminate people for what they look or because of their age, just because someone is young it does not have to mean that the person is childish.
First impressions are not always right.. you never know what to expect , for good and for bad, so.. even we have formed a idea about someone, you should be prudent.
Hope you can understand my point of view
