Hi all:
What do you think. Will Jurassic park movie can be true. From the scientific aspect, Can we clone the dinasours?
What about the JACATA? What do you think?

ermmo one way we could get dino’s back is if we took closest ancestors and selected the traits we wanted like massive teeth yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh. and after a lot of time possibly it would resembly a dino.
do you know if anyone has recovered any dinosaur DNA form mosquitoes or other beasty
they would also have to find an egg to put dino dna into. this would have to be something around today i guess
i hope they can do it as I want a pet dino that i can play tick tack toe with

Hi pinksyspinkey
Thank you for your comment.
But i think they can put the cloned cell in any egg so the dino can grow……… Am i right???

Denucleated ostrich eggs, not just any eggs.

That would be funny to see someone try to fit one of the worlds largest animal in a hummingbirds egg or something similar…

I dont think that conditions as they are now will allow for dinosaurs to be able to survive out of an enclosed habitat where they are catered for… even if we were able to clone them, which i hope no one tries to do… they are extinct for a reason lol

Actually I think Dinosaurs would do quite well in the modern day tropics.

I don’t think that humans should keep messing with environments and habitats… By introducing a creature like a dinosaur, what would the effects on other creatures be…

Hmm sure it’s possible but here are some problems.
1. The DNA recovered from fossils or whatever may not so perfect preserved. DNA tends to degrade after millions of years if you dont take care of it.
2. There are various pathogens today that would probably love to get into a pretty under evolved creature.
3. We dont know if the environment we have in the world is suitable for dinosaurs, so someone needs to spend some money make an artificial one.
4. Of course there was a documentary I saw that suggested that there is not enough food available to feed the dinosaurs. Global hunger is already pretty messed up, we dont need more things eating up everything, and mess up the food chain.
These are the problems I can think of, feel free to add more.

Like david23 said, the DNA degrades after so many years.
I actually believe that the original paper that Michael Crichton’s book was based on was quickly discredited because of poor lab skills and subsequent contamination (the dino DNA was actually some Drosophila DNA if I remember).
Actually the entire Jurassic Park trilogy is quite interesting – Velociraptor for example is actually only about turkey sized, the result of taxonomic changes post-film release.

Dude I hope not, thats more of a political social theme with biology wrapped around it.

Thanks David23.
But what is the scientific debated background behind this movie?
-
May 9, 2007 at 2:07 am #72410david23Participant
lets see, the movie talks about how genetically engineered children are the new elites in society, and those not engineered are not special enough, which are constantly being discriminated against. So lets see in our world if that would to happen, most likely only those that can afford will do this, and keep themselves on top of society. At the same time, this also makes regular people nothing more than second class citizens.

That doesn’t really sound like any fun at all…
