What element is most essential for humans? Carbon or Oxygen?

Each element has a unique function, and each is needed by plants to survive.

I know they need magnesium for the chlorophyll but commonly sold fertilizer has the acronyms NPK – nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium.

Potasium-reaches a higher concentration in plants then any other mineral element: activates over 60 enzimes
Calcium-important for the processes that take place in the cellular membrane and binds the cells together
Magnesium-a key element in the chlorophile molecule
Iron-necessary in the synthesis of clorophile
The lack of any of theses elements means death. As kyle said, you can not say which is the most important

Haha, I took me the longest time to accep that. I kept bugging one teacher in middle school with a similiar question. “Which is more important? The heart or the brain?”

Did your middle school teacher have a reasonable answer? 🙂

Potassium is an essential constituent for plant growth and it is found in most soils. Calcium regulates transport of other nutrients into the plant and is also involved in the activation of certain plant enzymes. Magnesium is an important part of chlorophyll, a critical plant pigment important in photosynthesis. Iron is necessary for photosynthesis and is present as an enzyme cofactor. So which one do you think is more important? i personally can’t make a division..

Primary nutrients are nitrogen, phosphorus and *potassium. Secondary are calcium, magnesium and sulfur.

Simple answer is potassium because it is necessary for a huge number of functions.
