ParticipantA few typos (et. al should be italicised, beware spaces et give a good look at your bibliography) but one thing made me cringe:
quote :Thanks to clever planning by Mother Nature…Mother nature does not plan!

I guess your right, that was not a proper thing to say in a semi academic paper. In the past my papers have been very stuffy and technical. I was trying to add a little color to my writing. I made an assumption that since Mother Nature is fictional, the statement would just go over as a form of colorful speech. In retrospect, I see how it sounds bad 🙁
Luckily this paper was never used beyond this forum as I made a subject change after writing it… Maybe that is why I posted it, as I felt my effort went to waste 🙂
Thought the chili’s trivia might interest a few people.
Thanks for the comments… -

Participantquote :Aside from the obvious reason as a flavoring in food, there are other economic uses for chilis. Certain compounds are extracted from the fruit and are used in pepper spray, a self defense weapon. Chilis have also found their way into medical products as certain parts of the fruit have anti-microbial properties.Wouldn’t exactly say either of these are "economic" uses.

Why not?
Grocery Stores sell chilis for economic gain, pepper spray is sold for profit as well. -

ParticipantI agree I think the phrase, commercial use does sound better.

ParticipantNice paper; I find your writing style approachable and easy to read. As far as constructive criticism, there’s a few minor spelling and grammar errors, but I noticed one phrase in particular:
quote :There are two big often asked questions about chilis.Wouldn’t this read better if "big often asked" was changed to "commonly asked"?
Other than that, I enjoyed reading it. So your work was not in vain! 😉

Yes that does sound better thanks. What spelling errors did you find? I ran spellcheck. Of course all the bio words failed spellchecker.
