      As I was reading over my motes on Mollusca I came across:
      ” Mollusca have two nephridia which are sometimes called kidneys because of their colour and role”

      Could someone explain what the difference between nephrida and kidneys are? Dont they have the same role i.e. to excrete nitrogonous wastes?

      Thanks

      Nephridia have the same role as kidneys, but are far from being as complicated. They are rather proto-kidneys here yyou will find a small sketch of the structure of a nephridia, if you have an idea of how a kidney look like, you will understand.
      In fact to me the nephridia reminds more of a single nephron of the kidney.

      Yup, agree with Dave…human kidneys are the complex one, before they become kidneys, they’ve to go through series of evolution since we’re inside the womb.
      Pro-nephros –> meta-nephros –> Kidneys

      while I think that Nephridia or Nephridiophor is classified into pro-nephros..IMMSMR.

      Thanks, so basically what makes up a ‘true’ kidney are the nephrons…if i may draw this conclusion. Am I right?

      @fran008
      yes you are right

      @victor

      No, you are wrong. nephridia is nephridia. You find them at some invertebrates(planaria, earth worm, moluscs-but here they are modified metanephridia called the Bojanus organs). pronephros is the first evolutionary stage of the vertebrate kidney. You find in Agnatha.

      By the way, nephridiopor is the orifice that the metanephridia opens on the outside. it opens on the inside by the nephrostom. You can find this at Lumbricus terrestris. The nephrostom from the metanephridia of one segment opens in the segment in front.

      Is everything cristal clear now?

      Yes sir, it’s a crystal clear now… 😆
      Um, by the way, is the nephridia same like flame cell?? because planaria uses flame cell isn’t it?

      Well, i have no ideea what flame cell is but planaria uses protonephridia. it is a system of tubules that ends with something called in romanian “a cell with vibrating flamura”- Maybe this is translated as flame cell. Anyway the important thing about these structures is that they are opened at only one end-towards the exterior. This structure is called nephridiopor-as opposed to metanephridia which are open at both ends

      Flame Cells are used for excreting water waste

      victor was sumwhat rite, in some animals that happens

      hey ,, wat does it mean
      —In the north Pole, why Bears dissolved into the water? Because it’s polar.—

      wat funny thing is this

      Hahahaha thats so funny,well polar solvents can easily dessolve in water.
