Participant"A particle that has been taken into a cell by phagocytosis is not truly inside the cell." Can someone plz explan this statement??

Participantwhat it means by ‘inside the cell’ is get surrounded by cytoplasm…phagosome is not inside the cytoplasm, because it’s surrounded by vesicle..

cool A-level student
Participantmmm is that not similar to exocytosis?

ParticipantWell, if you consider phagocytosis as a form of endocytosis as some authors do, then you can regard as phagocytosis as the reverse of exocytosis. Remember that there a lot of differences in the mechanisms of phagocytosis and endocytosis though…

ParticipantIngestion and digestion of bacteria and particles by phagocytes. The process by which particulate material is engulfed by a cell. Prominent in predatory protozoa, such as Amoeba proteus, and in certain specialized cells of multicellular animals such as macrophages. (From Greek, phagein, to eat.)

Participantquote victor:what it means by ‘inside the cell’ is get surrounded by cytoplasm…phagosome is not inside the cytoplasm, because it’s surrounded by vesicle..Hmm, as far as I know, phagosome is an endosome or vacuole or vesicle where a bacterium trapped after engulfed by a phagocyte via phagocytosis. It will be digested intracellularly by lysosome that fuses to that vesicle and spill the lysozym there 😕

Participanti think what he meants was it is surrounded by a membrane…

ParticipantWell, almost all membranes are similar in somekind of fashion, but when cell takes particle inside , the membrane curves inside and thus with help of different proteins(usually chlatrin) , folds up and forms a vesicle which buds inside with help of dynamin-protein. Therefore vesicle is made of the cell membrane, and whats inside comes from ECM. cool it maan! 🙂

ParticipantYeah, clathrin… from Golgi’s activity 🙂
