I am trying for IBO(international biology olympide).
How should I prepare for this to get success?
- January 7, 2006 at 9:30 am #364392810712Participant
Congrats if u’ve been selected as a representative of our country this year. And BEst of lucky efforts.
So, U may be knowing most of the following things-
U can buy some Qbanks of following mtG or Arihant pubblishers. Check out the INBO[ Indian National Biology Olympiad ] and IBO sites where some sample qs and the pattern of the exam is explained [ =weightage given to diff. topics, expected qualities , qs in practical exam etc.] .
U can get earlier INBO test papers and their soln from ur college or from ur seniors. Understand what type of student they want to select… try to add or improve the expected qualities of yours. Try to make some qs yourself. Use internet.
Make ur self used to typical type of INBO qs and the -ve marking scheme.
To get ur bio concepts clear read – Campbell, Raven Jonson or internet is the best info source… but be proffessional while using all these.Consult Seniors like MrMystery [ Andrew] in this forum.

Seniors… Lol…
I didn’t go to IBO last year.. Still upset about that… But anyway, the best advice i can give is an old christian saying: "until you reach god, the angels will kill you". It basically means don’t aim to high, don’t start studying for IBO until you are qualified. if you are not yet qualified, study the books you will nead for your local, county national etc olimpiad.
As for the bibliography of IBO, well, buy Campbell and Reece 7th edition. If you can not find the book in your country you can buy it off the internet-60 pounds or something. - January 7, 2006 at 12:51 pm #36463victorParticipant
haha…not in a long time, the next IBO will be held…keep studying friends, I’ll help finding the IBO questions for IBO participants….

Man i am going to so come in last at the olympiad. I don’t know anything!! I am going just because my teacher asked me to.
- January 21, 2006 at 11:16 am #37959victorParticipant

I did extremely bad on the olympiad today. My teacher is probably gonna kill me. No, i don’t want the questions, i probably couldn’t make heads or tails of any of them. 🙂
- January 22, 2006 at 12:03 pm #38069victorParticipant
I think every related subject teachers should train their participants before letting them to olympiads..
- January 22, 2006 at 12:29 pm #38081Dr.SteinParticipant
It is not a "should", it is a "must" 🙂
- January 22, 2006 at 12:35 pm #38085opuntiaParticipant
I’m sure you do that, Dr.Stein…sometimes i wish to be one of your students, but i am one since you teach me in here. 😀
- January 22, 2006 at 1:09 pm #38107MrMisteryParticipant
Well, our chemistry did teach us everything we nedeed to know except one minor thing. But i just didn’t have time to study for the chem olympiad. If i knew everything she gave us, i would have got something like a 98. Instead, i’m going to get a 48 🙂
- January 22, 2006 at 1:17 pm #38110victorParticipant
Bah…is it that bad??? at least if it’s not 98, you can try to reach 78 or 80 but this is….err….48???
- January 22, 2006 at 1:48 pm #38117MrMisteryParticipant
i exagerated a little. I might get more than 48. But not much more 🙁
- January 22, 2006 at 1:52 pm #38120victorParticipant
I relly hope that you got more than that..

No PDFs, and if links were posted, since it would be a breach of copyright I would delete the posts. But you can read the Alberts for free at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?call=bv.View..ShowTOC&rid=mboc4.TOC&depth=2
