Can anyone explain to me what a purified enzyme is? My professor has used it in this context…

an enzyme in two different species produces the same quantity and amount of product at the same rate. Molecule "X" was added to purified enzymes…

      Thanks!

Enzyme in nature don’t appear in the middle of nowhere. There is usually a cell (or more)around with plenty of other enzymes and molecules in it. So if you want to study One enzyme, you need to purify it, that is to selectively remove it from the rest of the cell to get a solution of only one molecule, the enzyme.
