How eating sugar(sucrose) causes weight gain ? Table sugar has low glycemic index than commonly used foods and we use little amount sugar ( usually few grams and it add only few calories ). Then, why we want to go for artificial sweeteners for dieting? Sugar converted into glucose and fructose by digestive system and they enter into the glycolysis same as in the case of other carbohydrates(eg. starch).

Why diabetes people avoiding table sugar? Eating table sugar is same as eating starchy food, they all have common end (will enter into glycolysis pathway) moreover table sugar has low glycemic index than some commonly used foods.

Table sugar doesn’t contain any other nutrients (junk) but we consume only little quantity compared to other food so it doesn’t matter much.

Sugar stimulates weight gain as much as other carbohydrates or other macronutrients: fats and proteins. It’s about calorie intake, not sugars. The point is, that sugary foods are usually calorie dense. One chocolate bar (100 grams) or cake can have over 500 Calories. By drinking soda or fruit juices you also consume a lot of sugar. It’s not just table sugar you add to foods it’s sugar in any sugary food.

      Sugars

Sugars raise blood glucose quickly, so this is why diabetics need to be careful with sugars. It is true that white bread, pasta, potatoes and rice can also raise blood glucose quickly. Sugar is allowed in diabetes, though.
