I have read many books that most of them state that the rubisco is short for RuBP carboxylase. While there are still some books stating that rubisco is short for RuBP carboxylase/oxygenase.
Which of the statement is correct or are the "carboxylase" and "oxygenase" the same compound?
Actually, the RuBP should be oxygenated when binding to CO2.Thanks…

The Rubisco enzyme has both a carboxylase activity and an oxygenase activity – that is, it can bind both CO2 and O2 in the active site.
The name derives from Ribulose bisphophate carboxylase-oxygenase - February 4, 2008 at 12:24 am #81388qiamondParticipant
Thank you very much…
