with the addiction of anything, it’s usually associated with some kind of receptor substrate binding issue in the nerve cells of the brain. Well thats the biochem explanation, you can go look up physiology part.

i have a not too biological reason.
when someone drinks alcoholthe brains stops working to a certain extent. he reaches a thoughtless state basically a meditative one. in which he is in a state of happiness all his worrries and stress are gone. this experience is what drags everyone back to drinking yet again and again - October 13, 2009 at 5:34 am #93651mithParticipant
addiction is defined as taking the drug even in the face of harmful consequences i.e. there’s a physical dependence on the drug. This occurs when you drink too much overstimulating the GABA response and inducing an equally strong glutamate response. When the alcohol leaves, the glutamate response still persists and causes withdrawal symptoms. Continued use is usually a way to stem the withdrawal symptoms rather than simply a need to get high again.

Numerous biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors appear to be involved in alcohol addiction. An offspring of one parent with alcohol-related disorder is seven to eight times more likely to become an alcoholic than is a peer without such a parent. Biological factors may include genetic or biochemical abnormalities, nutritional deficiencies, endocrine imbalances, and allergic responses.
Alcohol Addiction is a serious problem. However, alcoholism is not always as easy to notice as is drug addiction. How do we determine who is suffering from Alcohol Addiction and who is not? How do we determine who needs alcohol addiction treatment and who does not? The answer is very easily obtained: remove the alcohol and you’ll soon be able to determine if the person in question is in need of alcohol addiction treatment or not.
Most alcoholics will initially believe their alcohol addiction will work itself out or they will just stop drinking when the time is right? The reality is alcoholics will never find a better solution to their alcoholism than professional alcohol treatment. Very few people ever want to admit they are having trouble with alcohol addiction. Confronting the problem and admitting alcohol addiction is the first step towards Alcohol Addiction Treatment and the subsequent addiction recovery. - February 1, 2010 at 3:27 am #97158joshuabParticipant
