Hand eye coordiation, as for hydration- water is lost during exercise and needs to be topped up, as do various ions- which is why isotonic drinks are popular.

As a runner I know that it is critical to be properly hydrated before every type of exercise. During exercise electrolytes (the different types of ions) are needed to transfer energy through the body. Without electrolytes in your body the messages given off by your brain is not received in the muscles of your body. Without that message the muscles shut down and you feel a num feeling.
