In the U.S there is a "farm" that people can donate their bodies to for forensic studies.
Do we have anything like this in Australia ? I have done a couple of searches but can’t find any and I’m not sure if there isn’t one or I am simply looking in all the wrong places.
If there is something like that here I would definitely be interested in donating my body. - August 25, 2011 at 2:36 am #106046honeevKeymaster
and why would you be interested in donating your body??

Why not. It helps science and police. And once yo’re dead, your body is just an empty envelop. You can burn it, let it rot underground, or have it be used for good like organ donation, helping new doctors to learn their craft, or forensic science.
But I have no idea if there are any other center similar to the body farm anywhere in the world. - August 25, 2011 at 6:58 am #106049carameldogParticipant
Just been facing the fact I won’t be here forever and if it could help someone else then why not. I’m assuming they wouldn’t use all those embalming chemicals so as the body breaks down it would be feeding into the food chain in a fairly natural way. If there are none here I’ll have to think about other options.

As I said, there are other way to make your body useful. There might not be a cool body farm where you live, but I am sure that if you contact the nearest med school they might be interested. And, of course, get yourself on your local organ donor register (or whatever equivalent there is).
And depending on your family, you might want to also put that in your will or signed and made clear around you, as family opposing this kind of thing for plenty of reason would not be unheard of (I know that where I come from, although consent is assumed for organ donation, if the family say anything, they will not harvest the organs, in spite of a chronic need for organs) 🙁 - April 9, 2012 at 11:38 am #110548judithelenParticipant
I am also interested in donating my body to a Body Farm.
I heard about them on a radio program and on that program was mentioned the University of NSW. I contacted someone there (have misplaced the piece of paper with the woman’s name on it). She told me that more than once they have tried to establish a Body Farm, but been knocked back.
She told me that if we write a letter to her, or to Dr Woods or Wood here in Kenmore, Brisbane, and if there are enough of us, that might help. In any case I understood from her that I could arrange to send my body to her ‘in due course’. I will look for her name for you. I think she is in the School of Anatomy.
I am glad that I am not the only one! Another option is to donate one’s body to the University Medical School, but I don’t want to do that.

It is Dr W B Wood (known as "Dr Bones")
10 Warunda Street
Kenmore
Brisbane 4069 who may be able to help or at least advise where to write.
