      In an adult human, is it possible to ascertain which chromosomes originate from the father, and which chromosomes originate from the mother?

      Certain genes may be modified epigenetically by mechanisms such as methylation, by only a specific parent.

      If a gene is modified epigenetically, can such a gene be specifically identified as having originated from either the male or female parent?

      Yes, it is. Looking for genetic markers, using methids like FISH etc.
