I’m curious about this. I see alot of people doing it at the restaurant. Does it help anything?

Well I work in a restaurant and the reason why we wipe the silverware with a napkin is to take the water spots off, to make it look shiny!! It really doesnt do anything for the cleanliness. They’re pretty much already clean…

Not only that it doesn’t help, in the sense of getting rid of germs, but it probably even makes it worse. In addition to what you have on the knife you also add whatever you have in the napkin. But at the end it doesn’t matter, the chance there was something really bad there is small. And if there was you or your descendants can sue them :).

hey
im a guilty offender of such the crime. i always give my cutlery a wipe and/or get a new glass.
If i wipe it with a tissue , it does NOTHING whatsoever?? what if the waiter has touched it with their hands doesnt it get rid of their prints and what not??

I agree with nugget, i’d rather have clean looking silverware or cups, than have dirty looking(but actually clean) silverware or cups…

My 2 cents: even though it might not get rid of bacteria, whiping the knife with a napkin might get rid of macroscopical bodies, such as a piece of a leaf if you are on a picnic. It might also get rid of dust. But if you have a dirty knife, you should wash it..
