ParticipantHi,
I’m new into the study of Biology. Although confussed, I am motivated to learn.
Perhaps someone could help me to answer this question:
" Your friend asks you to view a microscope slide which has a cell that has a cell wall and an area of what appears to be DNA coiled in one region, but it is not bound by a distict nuclear membrane. he asks you what type of cell you think this is.
What would you tell him?
Why?"Thank you very your help!

Participantthe answer is deffinetly bacteria. But could a fungi spore also fit in?

Participantno. No cell walls in fungi.

ParticipantI take that back. they have cell walls, just different composition.

Thus actually it says:
the cell has a cell wall and has no nucleus

ParticipantI realised that it had to be prokaryote cell last night when i was in bed. To lazy to wake up and turn the computer on.
Fungi have cell walls, but are not made of cellulose, they are made oh kitine. Bacterial cell walls are made of murein

Participantmurein and N-acetylglucosamine..

ParticipantSmarty guy hah?
Murein is a complex mix of a polisacharide and short peptidic molecules. The polisacharide is mande of 2 monosacharides: N-acetylglucosamine and N-acetyl muramicSo? 😉

Participanthi, that might be prokarotic cell.your staining material denature the DNA that’s why it is collected.

ParticipantAndrew: Cell wall material is not a problem in this case 😛

Participantvictor corrected me when i said murein and i want to let him know i wasn’t wrong in saying so. And to show off a little 😆
