Can someone please tell me why an egg cell is able to get so big?? Thanks!

I think it’s the ability of the cell itself. Cell is modified so it can reproduce and doing a differentation..it depends on their gene.

After fertilization, some time passes before placenta formation. So the zygote needs energy, therefore nutrients. Egg cell is big because it contains nutrients for the new cell to divide.

Not only that, stratification of substances in the oocyte (egg) sets up future divisions and what those daughter cells turn into down the road (differentiation). Amazing things those oocytes.
