Why do you suppose Streptomyces griseus produces an enzyme that inactivates streptomycin? Why is this enzyme produced early in metabolism?

Streptomycin is an antibiotic that kills bacterial species. Therefore, S. griseus produces the enzyme to not be killed. This is an example of antibiotic resistance.
