Humans are led to believe that some animals are for a lack of a word better than others. I mean teddy bears, puppies, and kittens all have postivve images. As oppose to most bugs. And because of this image more people save puppies and kittens than let’s say buffalo’s Life is not fair. So what’s ur favorite? And how (if u know) did it become?
- November 11, 2005 at 8:48 pm #32557TheraphosidParticipant
Spiders. I have lots of them. I saved many spiders from the bottom of my Friends and Family’s boots.
I should also say I think they’re one of the most ‘intelligent’ arthropods. Look up stuff on the portia spider, quite a little marvel.
I think deer are the dumbest animals. I hate them.
- November 11, 2005 at 11:52 pm #32566InuyashaParticipant
yeah but why?
- November 12, 2005 at 8:51 pm #32615February BeetleParticipant
How can you pick just one favorite? I really like great white sharks because they are cool, wombats because they are so cute, gorillas, millipedes, octopus, squid, hydra. I like hydras because our class got to see them eat a ‘water flea’. So cool. Horseshoe crabs too. Choosing is impossible!
A lot of people I know think deer are dumb because they walk out in front of their car a lot or run into their car. I know someone who is terrified of sloths. - November 13, 2005 at 3:59 pm #32632InuyashaParticipant
interesting as it is, that’s not the question why do u like freat whites and not like deer? Is it innate, (probably not) or do to the pressures of society.

Well, i can’t be real specific, but i love snakes. I think the reason being is that pretty much everyone has a sense of fear of snakes, and i think that fear that inhabits my mind drives me to understand them more, and i have a profound respect and love for all things that slither. I find snakes more interesting than let’s say dogs and cats because those seem so ordinary while as snakes have such a ambiguous nature. Whether it be their scaly skin (not slimy), or those glossy almost lifeless eyes, and their undulating movement, snakes win my heart over everytime! what about you inuyasha, what do you think?
- November 14, 2005 at 6:50 pm #32694InuyashaParticipant
hmm. I personnaly luv anything rare, so when i found that only one ti-tigon existed in the whole history, well what we know anyway, wow, that it isn’t it.

😈 my favorite animal would have to be the golden eagle. Because it’s the biggest eagle in the world and it has the largest wingspan. but for the most part because it’s an animal that you don’t see alot of. And because they are free to go where ever they want they aren’t bound to the ground like man is. 😕
- November 20, 2005 at 5:42 pm #33126InuyashaParticipant
so animals to you are symbolic. And i’m guessing you also want to be as free as a eagle.

Pelicans and rays are my favorite. They’re both native to where I live so I see them all the time but I can never stop watching them. Especially sunset on the bay when the pelicans are feeding and the water is so calm and clear that you can see all the stingrays gathered in groups feeding.

My favorite animals are dolphins 🙂 .. but I actually want to study Primates, but I cant pick a favorite monkey. I have volunteered at a zoo before, & they had Mandrills & squirrel monkeys… The Mandrills were very wild, just amazing to interact with..through the bars of course. lol

If you like wolves but you afraid of it’s fierce habits, try a dog, Siberian Husky race, it’s just like a wolf..
- November 23, 2005 at 6:39 pm #33336CarolynparsonsParticipant
Yes it’s true that dogs, cats, teddy bears, have positive images but with all the movies lately such as antz and bug’s life, insects have become a positive image too.
But anyway it’s hard to choose a favourite animal because I enjoy watching or playing with many. My Uncle had lizards and iguanas (not at the same time) and I loved it when he would let me play or feed them. I’ve always had a dog and I love cats too, but I also had a frog (which my dog ate) and lots of fish, crabs, and other sea life from living in a fishing community close to salt water. And I have spent time fishing as well. The different species that were brought up with the pots and nets were different but each very interesting such as flat fish, wolf fish, cat fish, eel, different species of star fish and snails, etc. Every time that I would see something different, if some one couldn’t tell me what it was I found out myself. But if I had to choose a favourite it would be wolves, and the reason is kind of silly. My sister loves Winnie the Pooh, and mom would buy her anything that she seen of pooh. One day she asked me what I liked. At first I was stumped but I said wolves. That Christmas I had 5 wolf calendars and numerous figurines of wolves and my sister gave me a very interesting book on them. I have been collecting and reading up on wolves ever since. I also think the most beautiful dogs are actually hybrids of dogs and wolves.
- November 23, 2005 at 8:08 pm #33356shanec14Participant
Siberian huskies are nothing like wolves. Siberian huskies are nice if they are raised in th proper setting they can be very loving and just be lazy until you need or want one to do something then they can become very aggresive. Where as wolves are a very aggresive species to begin with but if you got a pup you could propably train it to like people other than yourself. 😯 I have a siberian wolf mix so I know what they can do. My dog pulled over 1750lbs. at his first wieght pull when he was a year old because he loved to pull wieght.
- November 23, 2005 at 9:52 pm #33366deenteenParticipant
lol. i think rays r cool too, but i dont like the feel dolphins r wonderful 😀
- November 24, 2005 at 12:11 am #33369CarolynparsonsParticipant
Wolves are not an aggresive species, they are wild and therefore don’t like to socialize with Humans. They are a highly social animal and are very friendly within their pack. Cross-breding dogs and wolves can be tricky because the wild wolf can be predominant in its personality. But once again ‘wild’ not aggresive.
- November 24, 2005 at 1:23 am #33383deenteenParticipant

submit one more post and you will be a junior member. ok, now back on topic, my favorite animal would have to be the zebra. I like them only because of their unique and cunning skills in the use of their camouflage that is used to confuse the heck out of lions and other predators because of their instinctive ways of isolating out a smaller, younger prey, or an older, less energetic prey, but the zebras do a great job of making predators just run in on the hunt and “make it up as they go”.
- November 30, 2005 at 3:21 am #33878Super GrendelParticipant
The SIAFU is my all time favorite, this very special species of ant has no fears what-so-ever. Between thier ability to use there follow ants as strctures (e.g. ladders or bridges) to the fact that they have to move thier colony almost weekly because they completely ravage habitat after habitat and exhaust thier food supply. Unless you’re a sausege fly (male SIAFU, is help captive, mated with then eatin) life as a SIAFU is good!
- November 30, 2005 at 8:19 pm #33942MrMisteryParticipant
Yes, the traveller ant(SIAFU to locals) is considered Africa’s apex predator. Even though they have no venin, they can kill practically anything that stands in their way. There have been several reports of people murdered by these immense groups of female travellers. It is said that the reason why the tasmania forests have no elephants is because the SIAFU killed them(by getting inside their lungs and suffocating them). But still locals consider them a blessing, as they travel along the fields each year and kill all the parazytes they can find…
- December 1, 2005 at 12:35 am #33987deenteenParticipant
thats really scary. i dont like to be around vicious creatures
- December 1, 2005 at 9:57 pm #34054Super GrendelParticipant
The SIAFU really only attack humans if they get in thier way. While they do have the ability to kill very large animals, they prefere small mammles, reptiles, and insects. I aslo think that the SIAFU make the african ecosystem nearly invunerable to invasive species. Should a new animal make home in the african forrest, they would be quickly delt with by these tiny titans (having no experience with the Traveler ant or how to avoid them). But it makes you wonder, what if the SIAFU entered a new ecosystem?

My favorite animal is the naked mole rat. Naked mole rats are defined as mammals, though they are unable to regulate their core body temperature. Also, they dig with their teeth and use a conveyor system to remove the dirt from their under-construction tunnels. Naked mole rats are native to east Africa, central and eastern Ethiopia, central Somalia and Kenya. Butt-ugly, but very interesting physiologically and socially.

Hello everyone. My favorite animal(s) would have to be canines. I am obviously a fan of wolves, but I also have some wonderful dogs that continue to astound me with their range of emotions and intelligent behavior. My lab Maggie put on quite an act yesterday. I was shoveling snow from my drive and she was waiting to go in, barking and whining in her usual manner (she wanted to go eat). After a few minutes of this, she came over to me and started hoping around with one paw held up, as if it was cold. After I said “Ok, lets go in” she puts her paw down and walks like normal. Astounding.

What you should do is click on "Browse…", locate your file and then click "Add Attachment". Once that is done, you can submit your post. Is that clear?

We named my cat Chunk because, when he was born, he was much fatter than the other kittens. He became quite the fat cat, totally bullying the other cats and even challenging human authority to become the "alpha male" of the house. He was also extremely intelligent. If the other cats were fighting, he’d always break it up if it looked like one of them was getting hurt. He would sit at the entrance to the kitchen and make sure none of the other cats disturbed me while I cooked. I always cooked a little extra meat for the cats and he must’ve figured out that he had to wait until I was done, and the other cats’ impatience was only slowing me down! He also had an annoying habit of waking me up exactly five minutes before my alarm, no matter what time it was set for. And he would slap people, sometimes to get what he wanted and sometimes just for fun. He loved to play with my fiance’s hair and he loved playing in boxes. God, I miss that cat!
Sadly, our landlord does not allow pets. That’s why we had to give him away. But we gave him to someone who we know for a fact takes care of his pets, so I am at least glad to know he’s in a good and happy home.

I laughed about the slapping people part 😆My moms cat used to do that
and when one of my kids was little, she slaped her.
My daughter started crying and said " missy spanked me" 😥That cat used to pee on the pot too. 😆

The first time we let my little cat out of the house when she was a kitten she stood in the middle of the road and a car was coming along so my older cat ran out into the road and cuffed her round the head and pused her to the side, it was so cute, the driver was laughing at him! 😀 Also he used to stick up for her when she was a kitten and getting bullied by another cat, he realy cares about her but they always fight inside the house 🙁
- February 16, 2006 at 9:52 pm #41091LinnParticipant
that is so cute! 🙂 risked her life too.
I think there is so much that we do not know about animal thinking process. I think cabable of more than is currently thought.
I remember reading a story in the readers digest about how deer dicipline there fawns by withholding affection.
And sometimes animals behave better than people. - February 19, 2006 at 11:29 pm #41301alextempletParticipant
Chunk’s favorite phrase was, "Is Chunk gonna have to smack a (explicative term for a female dog)?"
We also rather irreverently changed the phrase, "The power of Christ compels you!" to "The power of Chunk compels you!"
I think Chunk’s greatest ambition in life was to take over the world and have everyone worship him like they did in ancient Egypt. I regret ever giving that cat a history book.

- February 23, 2006 at 10:26 pm #41655alextempletParticipant
And they eat mosquitoes too! That’s a real bonus down here in the swamp, where we have about ten mosquitoes for every person on earth born every day! And dragonflies eat them too, which is why we also call them mosquito hawks. Long live the mosquito-eating creatures! 🙂

definely good times. I’m in China right now. I went to the Bejing zoo to see the pandas. You pay extra to see them. Very weird. But the pandas at the zoo were very dirty and all they did was eat with their backs turned to you. Not so cute after all.

China sounds awesome! The farthest I’ve been was Hawaii and I was like, 4½ when I went! I think my favourite animal(s) has to be the big cat family. And the canis lupus. Cute! Very cute animals! I have pictures of a lion growling at a zookeeper.
Good times..
