An individual has an episode of gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhea. How it will affect his intracellular and extracellular fluid compartments volume and osmolality? What acid-base abnormality will he develop? 😥

When someone is vomitting, they are vomitting up acid. You are losing H+ in the body, and this cause an increase in pH which results in metabolic alkalosis. Also, there will be increase in bicarbonate.
Hope that helps.
