Is there a link with the common "coldsore" and the devasting eye condition Iritis? Both can occur in high UV and it is common for the herpes virus to manifest in a variety of forms. Can Iritis be linked to herpes and can it be a factor for development?

Iritis is a type of anterior uveitis. It can occur due to herpes simplex infection though there are many other causes.
See this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10614681 and for description of the pathology, refer to this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1316639/
I didn’t get what you meant by a factor for development.
