what is the smallest cell in the human body. I’ve read several different oppinions, someone claims that it is a sperm, someone that the smallest are some special cells in Stratum granulosum (inside cerebellum) or even trombocytes (which are not considered to be genuine cell.. or are they?) Can someone help me?

As much as I know smallest cell in human body: lymphocyte

I believe the LARGEST cell in the human body is the female ovum, or egg cell. It is about 1/180 inch in diameter. The smallest cell in the human body is the male sperm. It takes about 175,000 sperm cells to weigh as much as a single egg cell!
But it seems as if there’d be something smaller than that, doesn’t it? - July 9, 2006 at 6:45 am #51159tam122Participant
The largest cell in the human body is the ovum, the female sex cell
The smallest cell in the human body is the sperm cell, the male sex cell, only about 3 microns in diameter.
You can search on google with the key "The smallest cell and largest cell in the human body" to find more interesting information. - July 9, 2006 at 9:44 am #51167fluktuaciaParticipant
of course i used google and i was searching in books as well, but everywhere i found different info. I found that the size of a sperm is 5×3 µm (head) and 50 µm (tail). Than i found that there exist some cells in coprpus granulosum of cerebellum that measure from 4 to 6 µm and that trombocytes (3µm ) are even smaller..

I thought the largest cell in the body was a neuron. Some are several feet long and can be up to 0.1 mm in diamter.

Our prof. told us that lymphocyte can be 2-3 micron. So looks like the smallest.
I know it writes sperm cell when you google it, but I’m not sure.
