ok guys i got my midterm on wed.

Its on organism, plants phyla, animals phyla and human brain.

The essay is on the evolution of plants and there adaptions. He said to include stuff on algae since plants evolved from algae.

I haven’t hand written a essay in ten years now so i’m not sure how to prepare.

If its angiosperms i could talk about respiration, vascular systems, reproduction

how should i prep for this one ?

Well one thing you might think about is the relationship between animals and their environment. I think almost all algal plants live in the water. There are a large variety of single-celled, single layered membraned algae. If you look at the rocky intertidal you will notice most seaweeds (algae) are flimsy in comparison to trees, etc. The water provides support. They don’t have roots because they don’t need them. Instead algal blades sometimes have holdfasts which simply keep the blade attached to the rock. The blade-water interface is where the algae can get most of its nutrients. Land plants however have to adapt to the arid environment. Many nutrients come the soil and thus the plants have to transfer them up to the leaves where photosunthesis takes place. Thus the advent of xylem and phloem, transport of nutrients and water… This is all generally speaking however. There are exceptions. Algae are extremely diverse and have developed all sources of adaptations. In fact I believe there is transport of materials especially in larger algae such as kelp, but I don’t remember, that class was fall of 2008. But in general algae do not have such a dire need of transport or support.

With animals you could introduce adaptions such as movement and not having photosynthesis as a source of energy…

Just ideas. I’m not sure if you’ve had your test yet. It’s always hard starting to write an essay. If you have a way to link all your adaptations together under a common them, it might be easier to structure your essay.

Just wanted to add: when writing an essay for an exam, certainly putting together excellent , cohesive thoughts are very important, but don’t underestimate the power of proper grammar, spelling, etc. That alone will help your score more than you’d think.

Well that just does not make much sense, does it?

From plant phyla to human brain. What exactly is your essay prompt?

Based on the posting date, I guess the point is moot 🙂
