I have a couple questions about plant cells:

How does chloroplast move throughout the cell, and where is it located?

Also I am having trouble distinguishing the difference between an elodea cell and an onion cell.

that is it, thank you for taking your time answering,

      – Imagine this: Boats are sailing throughout the ocean. Boats are chloroplasts, ocean is the cytoplasm 😉

      – Check the chloroplasts: Elodea is leaf, onion is root 😉

isnt it onion a bulb (modified leaves) ? sorry if ive misunderstood this one again.. onion root tips are typically mounted to show stages of mitosis.. the onion skin is also a typical specimen to show prominent nucleus, vacuole and cell wall…

      😛 Agreed at the point.

yeap, the part of the onion we comercially eat is made up of modified leaves. however, what the doc said still goes, as these cells do not contain cloroplasts, they contain other kinds of plastids, specialised for storage..

yeah thx for the answer, but specifically, what factor makes the leaf different than the onion?

Oops sorry, I think I made a mistake, because I did analyze onion’s root recently 😳 Yes, for basic microscopical examination we use onion leaf a.k.a. the bulb. Sorry 😳

Because the function of Elodea’s leaf is different from onion’s leaf, thus their structure must be different. Onion doesn’t need chloroplasts for photosynthesis. Also, Elodea develops specific cells that is effective for photosynthesis.
