Does anyone know of any good programs within a decent price range that will automatically do karyotyping??
- June 14, 2005 at 4:42 pm #24732WinterParticipant
Ok… Here’s something I found.
The program is called KARIO.
Here’s the address where you can download a demo version of it. How extensive the demo version is, I don’t know, but after some digging this is all I could find.http://www.zetaimaging.com/download.htm
-scroll down until you see the word KARIO-hope this helps. 😕

Thanks Kayleth, i’ll check it out
- June 15, 2005 at 5:00 am #24812WinterParticipant
So, did it work? I mean, was the program what you were looking for?
- June 15, 2005 at 1:34 pm #24821b_d_41501Participant
The demo wouldn’t run, i’ve been trying to get it to. It looks great though, it’s what i’m looking for.

cool

i was really curious..wat does a Karyotyping program really do ?
where does it find its application ? - June 21, 2005 at 5:03 pm #25158b_d_41501Participant
You first must have a microscope with a camera. You take the picture, then scan the image of the chromosomes into the program. It is supposed to then separate the chromosomes out.

quiet an impressive piece of software indeed 😀
- June 21, 2005 at 5:26 pm #25167MrMisteryParticipant
Yes, and from what i know, quite expensive too 😀
- June 21, 2005 at 5:43 pm #25173biostudent84Participantquote cytochromeP:i was really curious..wat does a Karyotyping program really do ?
where does it find its application ?Karyotyping will is an automated program that will take a snapshot of a cell nucleus and order the chromosomes so they can be examined.
- June 21, 2005 at 7:01 pm #25195b_d_41501Participant
Yes, but very well worth it. Starting in 2 weeks I will have to do this manually unless I find a software for fairly cheap.
- June 22, 2005 at 5:58 am #25215WinterParticipant
so I guess that means you weren’t able to get the demo running???
😕
back to square one, i suppose…

ok, here are descriptions for other karyotyping programs that are out now, but how they fare in terms of affordability… ❓ ❓ ❓

If not I’m going to start banging my head on the wall. j/k 😉 - June 22, 2005 at 11:55 am #25232cytochromePParticipant
so did you find any as such software ?
- June 22, 2005 at 2:23 pm #25250b_d_41501Participant
Yes, but my school has a small budget (they don’t like bunches of research) so we usually resort to the old fashioned methods.
- June 22, 2005 at 5:21 pm #25267cytochromePParticipant
so wat is that software that u have selected?
- June 22, 2005 at 6:27 pm #25283MrMisteryParticipant
I think he is still at manual work.. It’s not that hard.. It takes some time and patience
- June 23, 2005 at 3:01 am #25320b_d_41501Participant
It’s hard when your sample size is over 200!@!!!@!#@$#$
- August 18, 2005 at 8:38 pm #28644b_d_41501Participant
We are running slightly behind schedule with the beginnings of our karyotyping endeavor. My research leader is purchasing a digital camera lens for the microscope soon so it will be easier to get the project rolling in the laboratory stuff. Thanks for all the links guys.
