What are the functions of proteins? I was asked to describe five functions.

Your question is not that clear.
I’m assuming that you mean functions of protein on human body. For building of protoplasm.
For growth and repair.
Constituent of cell membrane.
A source of energy.
During deamination, glucose is formed. - November 16, 2005 at 8:04 am #32856laraParticipant
would like to add
1.chemoreception
2.immune response(remember antibodies)
3.catalysis(enzymes)
4.as lubricants(mucus) - November 16, 2005 at 12:15 pm #32870victorParticipant
And also, for building osmotic pressure in the plasma fluid inside the blood vessel to balance hydrostatic pressure and insterestiil pressure caused by the plasma itself…

forgot hormones-the messengers.

mucus is a protein? Isn’t it a mixture of proteins, water, sugars and electrolites or something similar?

Hi this is my first post.
can you please expand on “During deamination, glucose is formed.”
i know when protein is broken down, demainated, it could be used as a source of energy, but how would it convert to glucose ?
- November 27, 2005 at 12:24 pm #33636victorParticipant
Through the form of two molecules of PGAL (Phospoglyceraldehyde), products from protein deamination.
