Tanning is one kind of adaptation. South East Asia locates around the equator which receiving sunlight almost everytime. Tanning functions to filter ultraviolet and other harmful lights not to be absorbed by skin. That’s why your skin turns into darker because originally you come from country which doesn’t have sunlight as strong as the one in South East Asia. If then you come back to your country, the darker skin will fade away, as a result of MSH (melanin-stimulating hormone) suppressing not to be secreted intensively like when you stay in South East Asia.
In opposite, some South East Asia people want to have fair skin, thus they apply whitening cream to suppress MSH secretion. For some times yes this works, but when they stop using that cream, the skin tone will turn back into the original one, tan. Some of them don’t understand the adverse effect of that cream, some others got allergy, and well, their dream ruins their life 😉

I used to be very tan in the past, since my work requires long and hectic journey to every parts of the country. So, I started using Fair and Handsome, which is basically herbal based. Although, it wouldn’t be wise for me to say that after using it for quite sometimes, I’d regained my fair complexion; but to be very honest, I’ld like to say that I had regained the glows of my skin. I think, it will take time to actually bring back my original complexion.
