The p-53 gene (or guardian angel gene) controls proliferating cancer cells from getting too large. Is this correct, i know it has something to do with controlling cancerous cells. Does anyone know how it does this? And does the P-53 gene help with all types of cancer, or is there a selection of cancer types that it focuses on.

when a DNA damage occours, some signals from ATM go towards p53 that inhibits or induces other proteins/enzimes to arrest cell cycle and permits DNA repair or, if the damage is big, p53 induces apoptosis.
Non-functional p53s are one of the reason of cancer.
