Has anyone used TRIzol Reagen for total RNA extraction from plant material?
What makes this reagent so special, that it allows to avoid RNA degradation?

i’ve used it a hundred millions of time for total nucleic acid extraction of mammalian cells. (and i know of people who have used it for plants)

After extraction i would DNAse treat the sample to eat the DNA and keep RNA

      but that’s all I know…

Hmm…Still, I’m waiting for some good explanation, why TRIzol is worth buying.

I went at Sigma, and saerched for trizol. And I found 3 references, including 2 in a free acces journal.
So May I suggest you to do your own research rather than waiting for people to do it for you?

As if that was nice. Asking a question is OK, complaining becasue you still do not have an answer is not. We are not at your service.
I was trying to give you some leads to find an answer to your question since I do not know the answer. Now I don’t have time to do all your work.

Trizol is worth buying because it’s a standard for RNA work.

How does trizol look like? I’m curious but its far away from my prescribed syllabus presently…still interested…
It extracts DNA & RNA…from both animal & plant…hehe i’m too litle here!
Is sigma some kind of Database?

trizol is a liquid, actually a solvent used in nucleic acids extractions.
And Sigma is one of the biggest manufacturer of fine chemicals for (life) sciences. So their catalogue is a very good start to find info on many chemicals.

Yes Sigma has a nice feature on the upper right column of each product page. The links include PDFs for uses, inserts, and MSDS. It’s a good place to learn about the various chemicals that could end your life!
