A polymer has many subunits. An oligomer has a few subunits. A monomer has only one. A number in front of the suffix "mer" indicates a specified number of subunits. When applied to DNA, this specifies the number of bases in the molecules. For example, ACTGGTCGCG is a 10-mer.
