What is the best zoo in america? I personally think that the Philadelphia Zoo is the best. Washington D.C.’s zoo is pretty cool too. San Deigo is an awful zoo.

A holistic forum for zoologists? Wonder why this topic of zoos got brought up. Well ok, San Diego contains the rarest animals around, and has this double-decked bus ride that gives you a bird’s eye view of the zoo. I don’t see why you would despise it.

Wow Inu, that’s quite a list there. I’m really skeptical about whether you’ve visited them all, haha. Anyway, I’ll generate a list here myself as well…your list, and what I think of it:

      1. Lowry Park Zoo: Interesting, “Voted #1 Family Friendly Zoo in America”…seems like a good zoo for entertainment purposes. Haven’t been there.
      2. San Deigo Zoo: You just contradicted yourself there. You argued against me and yet you ranked it number 2 on your own list? Funny.
      3. Oklahoma City Zoological Park and Botanical Garden: I’ve seen this one. It’s a pretty good zoo- a great number of animals and plants on display.
      4. Brookfield Zoo: It’s similar to #3, except that it doesn’t have as big a botanical garden.
      5. Phoenix Zoo: Again, no botanical garden. Seems like an educator’s choice.
      6. Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden: Ah, been to this one. My parents brought me there when I was younger. I liked it personally, and I’ll rank it right next to the San Diego Zoo.
      7. Bronx Zoo: Went there last summer. Also a good one. There’s this Tiger Mountain Exhibit thing…it’s really interesting.
      8. Toledo Zoo: From what I heard, the experience differs from summer to winter. Hearing the comments regarding this zoo from a friend, I wouldn’t say that it’s the best zoo around.
      9. Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo: Children’s Zoo? Interesting…you must’ve liked it a lot as a child…unless, of course, I’ve overestimated your age.
      10. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium:You have both the land and marine mammals in this one. Once again, I haven’t been to this one, but from what I heard, it sounds pretty cool. Florida manatees, mexican wolves, white lions…

Merry Christmas to all, by the way.

According to information given to me by sites and some friends, I’d say that the zoos in Germany have quite extensive collections, while the San Diego and Bronx zoos side with the best of the Germany zoos. I am quite fond of animals, so I’d say that the Berlin Zoo with 74 acres of over 13 000 species of animals in “open captivity” would be the best zoo in the world. There’s the Elephant Gate, an oriental-style gate with elephant sculptures built in 1899 and refurnished in the mid-1980s. If you prefer looking sea animals, there’s the Berlin Aquarium (the largest and most comprehensive collection of aquatic animals in the world) right beside the zoo. There are more than 250 tanks displaying an amazing variety of fish. Really wish that I could go there someday.

Inu, you kept on insisting that the Philadelphia Zoo is a great zoo with a good collection. But…you gave no information regarding it. Why do you think that it’s a great zoo to go to, and which zoo do you think is the best in the world?

What about a topic about the conditions which animals live in and what influence do these conditions have on them?
Or would you prefer a more scientific topic?

It’s a one day trip. I don’t think i can do all that in one day at the zoo. Observations like that need years for just one species. Any other ideas

I feel that the Toledo Zoo defidently should be considered one of the best Zoo’s in the nation. Their animal collection is first rate, facilities are sparkling clean and their staff very knowledgable. They seem to go out of their way to address visitors questions about animals and other conservation issues. The park is moderate size and can be easily visted in a one day trip. They offer great educational opportunities for the public and are a leader in tourisim for the Toledo Ohio area.

Their buildings architecture lends a appealing blend of OLD rennovated WPA era structures like their Aquarium, Reptile house and Museum to first rate Modern architecture like the Arctic exhibit and their recently compleated Africa exhibit. You can learn about architecture as well as animal biology all in one setting!

I am fortunate to be associated to current keepers who work at this facility and find them to all be very knowledgable in their areas of expertise. This is just ONE GREAT ZOO!

Please visit soon and then decide for yourself. I would love to hear your comments.

Interesting web sites on the Toledo ZOO:

Oh. Well i’m sure the national parcs are better. Since the national parcs here aren’t to good. Most of the time there is a hevay smog warning for any of the parcs below Washington D.C.

Detroit has a decent zoo. Toledo’s zoo is nice. The Bronx and San Diego are great, although the San Diego Wild Animal Park is better than its older zoo. California has better weather too. Cinci and Columbus are good zoo towns. Chicago has two zoos that I understand are OK and better, but I do not know which one is the better one. Atlanta’s zoo is nice. I thought that the Disney Animal Kingdom was a waste of time. The National Zoo in DC has come a long way improving itself in the past 25 years. I never really cared for the Toronto zoo.

I like the Henry Doorly Zoo also. (not that I have been to that many) We went through the whole zoo and were very tired then we forgot, OH the aquarium! The aquarium is huge! It would be worth a trip there on it’s own.

If you go to Kansas City skip the zoo, it’s no good. There is another zoo in Kansas that is. Wait… i think that zoo is in Kansas City Missiouri :X

I look @ the list of the best zoos and none of them contain the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE. The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha has an awesome zoo. It has an incredible aquariuam, jungle, desert dome, gorilla house and cat house. I have been to several zoos around the country and if you haven’t experienced the Henry Doorly Zoo you are missing out on one of the top 5 zoos in the U.S.
